On Saturday, May 3, hundreds of alumni gathered in University Row for the 16th Annual Virginia Gold Cup at Great Meadow. Among the attendees were dozens of Texas Exes, including a few Archer Fellow alums, who were welcomed at the Western Expansion Tent co-anchored by the University of Texas and West Virginia University. Guests at University Row enjoyed catering and open bars throughout the day, exciting steeplechase horse races and trying their hand at human-size Jenga and their aim in cornhole. The University of Texas (DC Texas Exes) made the Lone Star State proud by snagging the Best School Spirit prize in the Best Dressed Contest (Austin Rackets, pictured) and the Tent Spirit Award. The Western Expansion tent not only featured school flags from anchor and partner schools, but also Texas Longhorn decals, Western cutouts (boots, hats, horseshoes), Deputy Sheriff badges, Longhorn Rubik's cubes, and Longhorn temporary tattoos. What really made the tent stand out were the horse pinatas, one of which had to be retrieved from another guest like a stolen mascot, but both provided lots of entertainment and afternoon sweets. Most guests ended the day back in Ballston (in Arlington, VA) at the Rock Bottom Brewery after party.
