DC Texas Exes Day of Service with Food & Friends

Join the DC Texas Exes for a day of service...
This is in conjunction with the Texas Exes' new annual service initiative Texas Exes CARE, an effort to get alumni across the nation to serve their communities during the month of February.

On Saturday, February 11th, Texas Exes plans to partner with local food shelter Food & Friends to make meal deliveries across the DC metropolitan area. The specific mission of Food & Friends is to foster a community caring for men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-challenging illnesses by preparing meals and groceries in conjunction with nutrition counseling. Their programs have helped change countless lives in the area by providing nourishment and hope for our neighbors in their time of need.

Food and Friends relies on volunteers like us to make the deliveries happen. DC Texas Exes plans on providing Food & Friends with at least 8 vehicles on February 11th, each taking on a delivery route lasting 1-3 hours. The neighborhoods serviced are safe, and detailed maps and directions will be provided. The event will begin at 10am with volunteers meeting together at Food & Friends in NE Washington, DC.

Each car participating in deliveries should have at least 2 people, with no set maximum. If you are interested being a volunteer driver or navigator for this exciting service project, please email Dakota Smith. This is our chance to get out into our community and showcase how committed we Texans are to serving our neighbors. We only warn that once you volunteer to help Food & Friends, you’ll likely want to go back to help them again and again. Sign up today!

January Brunch Club at the Tabard Inn

Start the New Year off right by getting together with your fellow DC Texas Exes for our ever-popular Brunch club.  This month we will be dining at Tabard Inn in the Dupont Circle area, the perfect place to break any diet resolutions (and after 3 whole weeks, it definitely is time). Their freshly fried donuts are not to be missed.

We will be limiting space to 14 people.  And due to the nature of billing at Tabard Inn,plan to bring cash. Please RSVP by sending an email to dctexasexes@gmail.com with “January Brunch Club RSVP” in the header.

Our Brunch club will is held on random weekends of each month, alternating between Saturdays and Sundays, based solely on the mood and whim of the organizer. Locations will be mostly in the DC area, but we will feature venues in both Virginia and Maryland eventually (if we get a good suggestion!). Texas Universities Happy Hour

Come enjoy happy hour drink specials (and free chips, salsa, and guacamole!) at Hill Country’s downstairs bar with fellow Texans from A&M, SMU, Baylor, UNT, and of course, UT. Wil Gravatt Band goes on stage at 8:00 p.m. for anyone interested sticking around for the show!

Winter Sports

Co-Ed Volleyball
This year will be our return to indoor volleyball after a 2 year hiatus. Regular season games will begin on January 7th and continue through the end of March. Games will be played on Saturdays, 5pm-9pm at The National Cathedral School, best –of-3 match length will last approximately 50 minutes, regular season is 10 games followed by single elimination playoffs. Player cost will vary based on team and league size, but expect $50-$60 per player. Team application due late November, male and female players needed.

Co-Ed Basketball
Regular season games will begin around January 4th and continue through the end of March. Games will be played during the week in Alexandria public schools.
