Conversation with Jeremi Suri about "The Impossible Presidency: The Rise and Fall of America's Highest Office"
Please join the Millennial Action Project for a conversation with Jeremi Suri, author of "The Impossible Presidency: The Rise and Fall of America's Highest Office."
Suri’s study of the American presidency focuses primarily on the office itself, rather than on the figures who have held it, to explain voters’ increasing disappointment with chief executives who have failed to effect the level of change people anticipated. Starting with the founders’ conception of the role as a limited one, Suri, a professor of history who holds the Mack Brown Distinguished Chair for Leadership in Global Affairs at the University of Texas, traces the presidency’s increasing importance in a globalized world, showing how unrealistic expectations, heightened campaign rhetoric, and the overwhelming scope of the job, have combined to crowd out bold vision and dwarf actual accomplishments.
Light lunch will be provided. This event is being held in partnership with the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute, Lyndon B. Johnson Washington Center, and the Archer Center.
Copies of the book "The Impossible Presidency: The Rise and Fall of America's Highest Office" will be available for purchase and signing by the author.

About the Speaker
Mark Murray is the Senior Political Editor at NBC News, where he covers politics for the network, writes and edits its popular First Read blog, and appears daily on MSNBC and Washington DC’s NBC affiliate to discuss the latest political news. He also serves as a key manager of NBC’s political coverage, giving direction to the network’s reporters and producers. Before joining NBC News in 2003, Murray spent five years as a reporter at National Journal. And he has written freelance articles published in the New York Times (Sunday op-ed page), the Atlantic Monthly, the Washington Monthly, Washingtonian magazine, and Washington City Paper. Murray is a 1996 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin (B.A.), and he lives in Washington DC with his wife Sasha and son Caleb.
About the Band
It's been five years now since Wood & Wire sprouted out of the rich musical soil of Austin, Texas. In that time, they've written music, recorded albums, and performed at some of the most notable festivals and venues across the country. In the often tightly defined genre of bluegrass music, Wood & Wire's ethos is not unheard of. Nor are the elements of song crafting, so often associated with their Texas home, that permeate their sound. That said, what comes out of the Wood & Wire blender is something entirely its own.
